Crowns and bridges are used to replace missing teeth. When one or more teeth are missing, the adjacent teeth tend to “drift” into the space, causing problems with your bite. This, in turn, can result in a myriad of problems with diet, nutrition, and more.

Crowns
A crown (also known as a cap) is essentially an artificial tooth. Placed over an existing tooth structure or an implant, a crown looks and functions like a natural tooth.

Bridges
Bridges use either crowns or the teeth adjacent to the gap to support a prosthetic. The prosthetic consists of a “bridge” with a crown or crowns to fill the space left by the missing tooth/teeth.

Dental implants and crowns serve both restorative and cosmetic results. Functionally, they replace missing teeth to maintain your bite and prevent drifting. Cosmetically, they look just like your natural teeth.

A dental implant is considered the gold standard in tooth replacement. The implant, a small titanium post, is inserted into the jawbone. The post fuses to the bone over a period of months. The post (implant) provides a stable foundation for a dental crown.

Your dental implant will look and function like a natural crown. Implants and crowns are also used to support bridges or dentures.
